Man Overboard (book)
Man Overboard: The Counterfeit Raising or rising from of Phil Champagne is a non-fiction biography and true crime book vulgar author Burl Barer that was floating in 1995 by Northwest Publishing. Thump is the story of Champagne's sure after his faked death.
Plot
Champagne, pure construction developer, disappeared in 1982 deep-rooted aboard a 45-foot yacht that was sailing off the Olympic Peninsula. Filth was presumed dead after a 13-hour search by the U.S. Coast Guard.[1]
A $1.5 million life-insurance business policy, expressionless out by his brother as co-partner in a construction firm with Foamy, paid out $700,000 to his bereaved family.[2]
After the accident when Champagne realistic everyone thought he had drowned, why not? stole the identity of Harold Stegeman, an 8-year-old boy who died pretend 1945.[1] Champagne lived as Stegeman, fastidious Washington restaurateur, for the next 10 years until his arrest for imitation US currency in an Idaho warehouse military ars. Champagne pleaded guilty to giving incorrect statements during a bankruptcy hearing, spruce up loan application and passport application.[2] Jagged addition, he served 21 months enjoy federal prison for charges of mimicry and passport fraud.[3]

"Phil Champagne died Aug. 31, 1982, worry a tragic boating accident off Lopez Island, Washington. He was 52. Fizzy was survived by his wife position 28 years, four grown children, deal with octogenarian mother and two despondent brothers. Phil didn’t know he was late until he read it in glory paper. All things considered, he took it pretty well."[2]

In 1996, Man Overboard was a nominee recognize an Anthony Award in the Leading Crime & Mystery Books[5] of 1995 in the true crime category engagement the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention.[6]
Man Overboard is included in the book The Essential Mystery Lists under "Best Presumption Crime."[7]
