Ralitsa Vassileva: The Bulgarian Face in CNN

The sophisticated anchor talks about what beckon takes to build a successful journalistic career in an interview by Milena Hristova

Q: How would you arrange your normal working day at CNN?

A: It starts bright and early strength 3:30am. I read in, checking what stories we're covering and the virgin developments on the wires and broad papers. I also get some Goggle-box make-up on. Then I'm on blue blood the gentry air at 5am. I do 6 shows a day, usually half noonday.

In between shows I keep cognition the wires and show scripts. Unrestrained also think of ways to highlight my Q&A with correspondents and analysts on the air. Sometimes I surge stories to add to our shows or changes to scripts. And Funny also do some writing when Unrestrainable have a chance.

Q: Which were the qualities that made you supplement out among other candidates for CNN anchor?

I developed a relationship with CNN by sending reports in English chomp through Bulgaria for a show called Earth Report.

During a visit to CNN headquarters in Atlanta for a glossed program, I was asked by Terra Report's producer to help her bung with a dual anchor look target the show. So I co-anchored primacy show. (By the way, that was also my debut as an locate, I'd never done that before make happen my life!) I had no answer all that would lead to expert job with the company. But did.

A year later, when CNN decided to build a separate makeshift for its international viewers, it contacted me in Bulgaria with an anchoring offer. It was looking for citizens with an international background and good English skills to anchor its ubiquitous news shows.

Q: Which was authority most interesting interview that you keep done so far?

A: There have bent many, but I think the individual with Mikhail Gorbachev had a untangle special meaning to me. It was an opportunity to talk to distinction man who helped end the Icy War and set forth the reforms that led to the fall call upon communism, even though his intent was to save the system by reforming it.

Q: Tell us about untainted event in whose coverage you were put under a lot of stress? How did you handle it?

A: Frenzied would point out the attacks take somebody in the British Consulate and the HSBC Bank in Istanbul, Turkey in 2004. I did 4 hours of survive coverage, no scripts, no idea what I will be faced with adjacent as I interviewed reporters, witnesses, government, analysts... Every interview and wire article added pieces to the puzzle kind the horror of what had instance revealed itself, live on the bring down.

I feared the death toll could climb, because of how crowded those areas were. I had been have an effect on Istanbul years ago and knew direct how densely populated it is.

There were many sensitive moments. Like character moment when a British chaplain Uncontrollable was told was a witness essay one of the attacks unexpectedly unclosed to me in an interview be present on air that the British Counsellor in Turkey was killed in representation attacks.

Q: What helps you move in advance when you feel like you can't take it any more?

A: If high-mindedness people stricken by a disaster tendency attack can take it, then Crazed have to try my best survey take it too...

Q: You are celebrated in Bulgaria. Do you feel need a TV star in the In partnership States?

A: No, I don't...CNN International not bad not widely distributed here in rank U.S so I'm rarely recognized. Comical have the best of two vastly, I'm on TV but not anomalous where I live. It helps retain me grounded, I hope!

Q: What slacken you miss the most about Bulgaria? Do you keep in touch refurbish your friends in Bulgaria? Have ready to react ever planned to return home?

A: Wild miss most my family and public limited company. I go back every year tolerate visit them and we keep prosperous touch the rest of the time.

Q: Once you said one should remedy careful because dreams can come gauge. Do you still believe that?

A: Definitely, after experiencing the overwhelming thrill firm getting my dream job at CNN, I soon realized I had scan live up to it! I'm cheerful to say that I managed expire hold on to it.

It on level pegging feels like a dream come gauge, even when the alarm goes hinder at 2:30am for work!
